Job Description:
For AIX and Linux servers running Oracle RAC, SAP, Weblogic/Websphere etc., performs installations, customization and maintenance of the operating system and system software products in support of business processing requirements. Test and apply operating system updates and patches. Monitors and tunes the system to achieve optimum performance levels in standalone and multi-tiered environments. Perform Incident resolution, Problem Determination and Root Cause Analysis in accordance with Service Level Agreements. Provides in-depth diagnosis for operating systems software/hardware failures and develops solutions. Prescribes system backup / disaster recovery procedures and directs recovery operations in the event of destruction of all or part of the operating system or other system components. Implements appropriate levels of system security. Provides technical expertise for system Transitions, Migrations and Consolidations. Provides technical assistance to IT support staff, including but not limited to, DBAs, Network Engineers, Application Developers, middleware Engineers, other System Administrators, Project Managers, Change Managers and Business Development staff.
Required skills:
- 5+ years of System Admin experience in AIX 5.2 and 5.3 and 3+ years in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (preferably RHEL 4)
- Experience in supporting production servers running 24/7, responding to Support Incidence Tickets, in a timely manner and using Change Management procedures.
- Networking concepts ( tcp/ip, dns, nis, nfs, ssh, samba, rsunc, tftpbootp )
- Shell scripting (bash/ksh)
- Exposure on attaching and configuring EMC SAN Storage devices like CLARiiON, Symmetrix DMX etc. to Servers.
- AIX – Hands on experience working on AIX 5.2 and 5.3 with concepts like NIM, LVM, OS Upgrade, MPIO, EMC Powerpath, Performance monitoring with nmon, SAR, filemon, Tuning Kernel parameters, Virtualization (LPAR, DLPAR, HMC & VIO). Basic knowledge of ODM.
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux (4AS/ES) – Hands on experience in building Linux servers using Kickstart configuration, Creating RPMs, RHN Satellite server configuration, Networking, User administration, Cluster Logical Volume manager (CLVM) and GFS, fdisk, multipath, Experienced with virtual consoles like iLO, DRAC on standalones as well as Blade chassis.
Desirable skills:
- Virtualization on Red Hat Linux ( Xen Hypervisor, VMware )
- Perl
- Sys Admin skills in HP/UX and Sun Solaris
