Microsoft launched its Center of Release Excellence Web portal a week early, meeting or exceeding all of its expectations for quality.
Microsoft, the worldwide leader in software, services and solutions that help people and businesses realize their full potential, turned to ProKarma for an extensive software development and project- management undertaking. Microsoft had a three- to four-month window to deliver a website for its Center of Release Excellence (CORE) group, which is responsible for the processes that drive how all Microsoft products are released to market. Among the challenges were the need to provide a single entry point for all users, enable information integrity and allow systematic content management without external dependencies. The scope of the project was broad, extending to any and all release tools, services, groups and knowledge bases across the lifecycle of a Microsoft product. Several existing sites needed to be re-architected and migrated onto the platform for this new portal.
Relying on a user-centered design philosophy, the ProKarma team was immersed in Microsoft’s release domain to discover and document as-is processes as well as the existing regional and workgroup-specific release portals. After designing and prototyping the new portal, ProKarma began the process of building and migrating content and deploying the new CORE portal. Content for the new portal was migrated from hundreds of existing sites around the company, and the new site was built on (then current) Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007.
The partnership was a resounding success: The new Microsoft Center of Release Excellence (CORE) Release Operations Web portal was launched a week early, meeting or exceeding project scope and quality expectations in all areas.
